Anyone actor who has made the pilgrimage to L.A. and put everything on the line, wants to know how to succeed in an audition. Before I give away a few tips, I think it’s important to figure out what “success” in an audition really means.
First of all, start wrapping your head around the fact that there are 100 factors that are out of your control every time you go in for a part. All you can do is do your best, and then move on… let it go. Success doesn’t mean booking every part you go in for, it simply means doing your best. So how can you do your best every time? Auditioning is a skill of its own, quite different from actually acting in the conventional sense.
First, you need to interpret the writer’s words. Think about this for second – every single line in a script has a purpose. So, what is the writer trying to accomplish with each line? Second, how do you feel when you deliver the line? Third, What was happening the moment before? Think about what your character was engaged in directly before the scene opens. Fourth, make strong choices about how your character feels. Fifth, Let it go.

The Beach Boys Smile Sessions
After 44 years of waiting the original Smile by The Beach Boys is set to be released on November 1st of 2011!
For real Beach Boys fanatics like myself the 9 disc (CD & vinyl) Smile Sessions Box Set is the “motherload” we’ve been waiting for.
Sure Brian Wilson’s version of the album in 2004 was great but it’s just not the same with his older thinner voice and with the other people in the band who were quite good but they were not The Beach Boys! Plus there’s something a bit too modern or polished about it. Don’t get me wrong, I love it. But I have my hopes up that these original recordings will be quite a bit more exhilarating (even if not quite as complete.)
Plus as a songwriter myself I’m very excited about the four discs of extras. There are so many versions of each song that I feel like I’m going to really get to hear inside Wilson’s creative process! For me that’s a very exciting prospect.

To improve my grammar in order to become a writer, I have been using a grammar checker service to help me use my punctuations correctly. I have been know to leave a comma out here and there and I really wish that there was a way to learn all the places that it goes really fast, but my memory is pretty bad and I’m an older person. I know I won’t pick these things up quickly, which is really why I went for the grammar checker. It will help me out a lot and it’s cheaper than hiring someone to do it for me. It’s also less awkward, I think. I guess I just don’t deal very well with people, so I depend on software to do the bulk of the work for me. My boy wants to become a folk superstar, and I’m so proud that he listens to the mellow sounds of the sixties and seventies as compared to some of the foul-language-ridden stuff that kids are writing these days. I think every style of music has its place in the world, but the stuff that’s offensive is just not proper. And the young people of our world shouldn’t be learning from that, they shouldn’t be brought up to believe that that’s a good example. I turned my son onto a lot of the better musicians from my time though, and he really appreciates them. In fact, I broke out my old guitar the other night and showed him how to play some basic chords.
